A study on Perception and Characteristics of Hair Dyeing of Hair Beauty Salon Customers`

Abstract
This study conducted a questionnaire survey against a total of 400 beauty salon customers in Ulsan from August 1 to 31, 2014 with a goal of analyzing their perspective on hair dyeing. Then, the results found the following: The subjects were fairly evenly divided by gender. In terms of age, 50s was the highest. In terms of occupation and hair type, housewives and slightly curly hair were mostly found respectively. Regarding scalp and hair conditions, normal and neither good nor bad were mostly responded respectively. When asked why they decided to dye their hair, to cover gray hair was most responded with 38.5%, followed by styling(35.9%) and covering gray hair + styling(25.6%). When asked when they would want to have their hair dyed, to cover gray hair(42.3%) was most responded, followed by for a change(30.1%) and to have a gentle and mild impression(25.0%). The level of scalp irritation after dyeing was slightly lower than the average with 2.36 scores. When asked if they have ever experienced hair damage after dyeing, 57.7% responded Yes while 42.3% said No. In terms of the biggest cause of hair damage during hair dyeing, quality of the hair color was the highest with 64.1%, followed by thermal treatment(15.4%) and ageing time(12.5%). When asked if they needed a hair-coloring expert, 57.7% responded Yes. When asked why they didn¡¯t want to have their hair dyed, it is tiring to have hair dyed again was most responded with 33.9%, followed by severe hair damage(31.7%) and scalp irritation(28.5%). In terms of the limitations of this study, because a particular area was only examined, it is hard to generalize the study results.
